The Prophet used to say bismillah first before starting to eat food and then after eating it, he would say:

اللهُمَّ أَطْعَمْتَ وأَسْفَيْتَ وأَقنَيْتَ، وَهَدَيْتَ، وَأَحْيَيْتَ؛ فلك الحمدُ على مَا أَعْطَيْتَ

O Allah, You have given us food to eat, You have given us to drink, You have given us this as wealth, You have given us life, All praise to You as you have given all this.

1. Abu Shaykh Ibn Hayyan has recorded this hadith in his book Kitabul Akhlaaku Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam Wal Adhaab.

2. A man who assisted the Prophet (صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) for eight years narrated this hadith and Imam al-Albani (رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ) has ruled it as Sahih.

3. It is Bid'at to add additional words with the word Bismillah before starting to eat. In order to add additional words (by saying Bismillahirrahmanirraheem), our Prophet (صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) must have done it at least once in his life and only then it is permissible for us to say so. For example, when a man said Alhamdulillahi Rabbil alameen instead of Alhamdulillah after sneezing it was refuted by Abdullah ibn umar.

4. In this matter, Imam As-Suyuti has ruled that this is a bad Bid'ah. The Hanafi Madhab books conclude this to be an abhorred act.

5. Imam al-Albani : Can the blind followers of Madhabs respond to the ruling of Imam Suyuti? If asked, they cannot give an answer and they may even judge the imam as a Wahhabi. But Imam Suyuti lived 300 years before the time of Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab.

6. Imam al albani compiled a book called Qamoos al Bid'at, a book with the list of innovations.

Ash-Shaykh Yahya Silmy As Saylani said, 'As far as I know, this kitab has not been published yet because I once asked Ali Hasan Halabi about it and he replied that this book was not completed during the time of the Imam.

7. Ash-Shaykh Yahya Silmi As Saylani: Blind followers of Madhabs will get away by judging others as Wahhabi because they cannot prove their decision and they created this title of Wahhabi to save themselves, to create division among Muslims and to aid the disbelievers.
