Transcription and Translation of the Jumuah Khuthbah Conducted by Ash-Shaykh Yahya Silmy Hafidahullah on 2nd Of August 2024

إنَّ الْحَمْدَ لِلهِ نَحْمَدُهُ وَنَسْتَعِينُهُ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُهُ، وَنَعُوذُ بِاللهِ مِنْ شُرُورِ أَنْفُسِنَا وَمِنْ سَيِّئَاتِ أَعْمَالِنَا، مَنْ يَهْدِهِ اللهُ فَلاَ مُضِلَّ لَهُ، وَمَنْ يُضْلِلْ فَلاَ هَادِىَ لَهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ وَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُوا رَبَّكُمُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ مِنْ نَفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ وَخَلَقَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا وَبَثَّ مِنْهُمَا رِجَالًا كَثِيرًا وَنِسَاءً وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ الَّذِي تَسَاءَلُونَ بِهِ وَالْأَرْحَامَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَيْكُمْ رَقِيبًا

يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللهَ وَقُولُوا قَوْلاً سَدِيدًا يُصْلِحْ لَكُمْ أَعْمَالَكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ وَمَنْ يُطِعِ اللهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَقَدْ فَازَ فَوْزًا عَظِيمً. أَمَّا بَعْدُ

فَإِنَّ خَيْرَ الْحَدِيثِ كِتَابُ اللهِ، وَخَيْرَ الْهَدْيِ هَدْيُ مُحَمَّدٍ صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم، وَشَرَّ الأُمُورِ مُحْدَثَاتُهَا، وَكُلَّ مُحْدَثَةٍ بِدْعَةٌ، وَكُلَّ بِدْعَةٍ ضَلاَلَةٌ، وَكُلَّ ضَلاَلَةٍ فِى النَّارِ

English Meaning of the Khutbathul Hajah:

All praise is due to Allah. We praise him, we seek His help, we seek His forgiveness, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evil within ourselves and our evil deeds. Whoever Allah guides, there is none to misguide him. Whoever Allah leads astray, there is none to guide him. I testify there is none worthy to be worshipped but Allah alone, without any partners, and that Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, is His servant and His messenger.

Allah Almighty said, “O you who have faith, fear Allah as it is His right to be feared and do not die unless you are Muslims,” (3:102)

And Allah Almighty said, “Fear Allah, from whom you ask each other, and in your family ties, for Allah is ever watchful over you,” (4:1)

And Allah Almighty said, “Fear Allah and speak words as befitting. He will amend your deeds for you and forgive your sins. Whoever obeys Allah and His messenger has achieved a great triumph.” (33:70-71)

The truest word is the Book of Allah and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad(صلى الله عليه وسلم). The most evil matters are those that are newly invented, for every newly invented matter is an innovation. Every innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Hellfire.

Allah Says in Surah Adh-dhaariyaat:

وَمَا خَلَقْتُ ٱلْجِنَّ وَٱلْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ [٥١:٥٦]

And I (Allah) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone) (51:56)

Allah sent messengers to teach us how to worship Him alone and preserve His rights. Misguided people opposed the prophets and corrupted this Pure Call(pure Dawah). Examples from history are many revealed to us by Allah in the Quran.

Allah blessed us, a final messenger with a final message. That is our beloved prophet and Deen al Islam. Any deviation from it is misguidance, every misguidance leads to hell-fire.

Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) conveyed this message of Islam, the complete religion in a perfect manner by Quran, Hadees and his companions. He was attacked, plotted against and faced many hardship during his call.

Allah sent him as a mercy and as an example. He (صلى الله عليه وسلم) preserved our prophet and His Deenul Islam and promised to preserve it till Yauwm Al Qiyamah. Allah obligates to all mankind to take His last messenger as a guide for a truthful living and a warner of all falsehood.

After him, the four righteous caliphs(Abu bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali) & all other sahabah carried this duty upon his path facing all the fitnah, attacks, plots of the enemies of the truth(disbelievers, hypocrites, innovators). They strived and maintained unity and guidance of this ummah with their knowledge and sacrifice.

They criticized all the innovators, refuted false claims and established the sunnah.

They spread the Quran and sunnah to this ummah of Islam without any omission. They carried and conveyed it to the next generation in the most trustworthy manner.

Tabieen and those who followed them, those who follow them, those who will follow them till Yawm Al Qiyamah will sincerely give victory to sunnah. They will strive in calling people to it, teaching it, proving it(sunnah) to be perfect way for mankind to follow and progress.

At the same time, people keep attacking the sunnah and its callers by slandering, backbiting, false claims, lies and violence against them. The supporters of Shaytan are continuing this from the time of our prophet till today. They fabricate Hadees, they spent their life to spread false beliefs, narrations, understandings.

All this to fight the Ahlus Sunnah, Salafiyoon and stray people away from sunnah!

Due to the strength of the companions & Tabieens, their emaan and knowledge, the enemies of sunnah could not spread falsehood. They were refuted, their claims were eradicated and invalidated. The deviants were hiding their corrupt ideologies in fear. People from the Kuffaar like Sausin, Abdullah ibn Sabah and many others entered Islam claiming to follow Quran and sunnah. But they did not follow, rather corrupted it with false arguments, debates, logic and philosophical interpretations.

People adopted those paths and divided into groups, sects, tariqas, madhabs. All these corruption to fight, to malign the clear and perfect sunnah. All the lies, attacks were to disrupt the sunnah and the guidance it brings to the mankind.

They(people of desires, deviants) instigated Muslims against Umar Al Khattab and Uthman (رضي الله عنهم). Uthman (رضي الله عنه) was know as Dhun-nurayn, two of the daughters of our prophet were married to him.

Abd-Allah ibn Umar ibn Aban al-Ju’fi said, My maternal uncle, Husyan Al-Ju’fi said to me,

‘O my son, do you know why Uthman was called Dhu’n-Noorayn? I said, ‘I do not know.’ He said, ‘No one else ever married to two daughters of a Prophet, from the time of Allah created Adam until the Hour will begin, except Uthman. Hence he was called Dhun-Noorayn.

(Sunan al-Bayhaqi, 7/73).

Who murdered Uthamn Bin Affan? Was it the disbelievers? No. He was murdered by the deviants within the Ummathul Islam. These Ahlul Bidah are not to be taken lightly. They used Muslims against the Sahabah of our prophet. This is a lesson from the history. So, do not take the misguided groups and its callers lightly.

Abdullah ibn Sabah, Musailamah Al Khaddab, Aswadhul Anzi and long list of people were hypocrites who destroyed Islam and Muslims. That is why Ahlus Sunnah from the past till today repeatedly advise muslims not to sit or cooperate with people of innovations and desires. They will corrupt you and others with you.

Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنه) reported: The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), said,

“A man is upon the religion of his best friend, so let one of you look at whom he befriends.”

Sunan al-Tirmidhi 2378

Muslims should not show negligence to the warnings, criticisms, advise of the scholars about these kind of deviant groups, books and individuals. They should avoid fitnah makers. Otherwise the damage will be great and irretrievable except to whom Allah bestowed his mercy and forgiveness.

These misguided individuals(of the past & our times) never speak based on knowledge. The most common trait is that they never sit and learn knowledge(Al-ilm) from the Ulema us sunnah and distance themselves from the gatherings of Ilm. But they talk about islam, quran and sunnah, beautify themselves religiously in front of the people. They have only caused corruptions claiming to be upon truth and that is their madhab(mere claims with no proofs). They are the Shaytans of this ummah.

Jews, Christians, atheist and others from the disbelievers were not able to defeat muslims. It is only these Ahlul bidah, ignorant deviated groups and individuals who caused destruction to the ummah in the name of islam, in the name of dawah. This is a lesson from our Islamic history. Look into our history and learn to realize the truth.

This is happening till today. Scholars of Ahlus Sunnah are fighting against these deviations and tirelessly teaching, calling people to sunnah.

Beware of callers of misguidance as they are callers of hell-fire.

(Meaning of the Hadees)

Narrated Hudhaifa bin Al-Yaman (رضي الله عنه):

The people used to ask Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) about the good but I used to ask him about the evil lest I should be overtaken by them. So I said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! We were living in ignorance and in an (extremely) worst atmosphere, then Allah brought to us this good (i.e., Islam); will there be any evil after this good?" He said, "Yes." I said, 'Will there be any good after that evil?" He replied, "Yes, but it will be tainted (not pure.)'' I asked, "What will be its taint?" He replied, "(There will be) some people who will guide others not according to my tradition? You will approve of some of their deeds and disapprove of some others." I asked, "Will there be any evil after that good?" He replied, "Yes, (there will be) some people calling at the gates of the (Hell) Fire, and whoever will respond to their call, will be thrown by them into the (Hell) Fire." I said, "O Allah's Messenger! Will you describe them to us?" He said, "They will be from our own people and will speak our language." I said, "What do you order me to do if such a state should take place in my life?" He said, "Stick to the group of Muslims and their Imam (ruler)." I said, "If there is neither a group of Muslims nor an Imam (ruler)?" He said, "Then turn away from all those sects even if you were to bite (eat) the roots of a tree till death overtakes you while you are in that state."

If you (Muslims) cooperate with these groups and sects, then you are also taking part in fighting the sunnah. They talk Islam to you, but it is their Islam not the Islam of the prophet and his companions. They play with religion, knowledge, spread rumours about true scholars, falsely interpret Islam and cause destruction to Muslims. This is called dawah according to them.

Scholars of Ahlus sunnah are well aware of these people of desires, their plots and attacks on the people of sunnah. Due to these false Da’ees, scholars emphasize on the condition of Tazkiyyah for the Da’ee.

What is meant by Tazkiyyah(recommendation of a scholar)?

Is it to protect our name and seek respect in society?

Scholars of sunnah, true scholars of Islam recommend to the Muslims, the carriers of knowledge, trustworthy people in order that beneficial knowledge can be sought from them. This recommendation is an Amanah(trust) from them to the qualified individuals.

Allah says in Surah Faatir Verse no.28,

إِنَّمَا يَخْشَى ٱللَّهَ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ ٱلْعُلَمَـٰٓؤُا۟ ….

It is only those who have knowledge among His slaves that fear Allah. (35:28)

One must not consider himself to have knowledge and start to teach. This will end up in fitnah. One can have good intention, claim to spread the truth, save this ummah, but if they have not studied under scholars, not recognised by the scholars of sunnah for knowledge, it is only hastiness, deception of those individuals. This is neither knowledge nor dawah.

All these misguided individuals claim to have come for saving the ummah, spreading Islam. But they cause corruption, slander, lie about scholars of sunnah.

This can be seen throughout the history of Islam. Recent examples are Safar Al Hawali, Aid Al Qarni, and many who lied about the Mashaykhs of the ummah and carried on with their corrupt dawah.

“Those who are not known by the scholars of sunnah for true knowledge and understanding of Islam cannot call people towards the sunnah. Those who claim to call themsleves to be salafis, sunnis, ahlul hadees will only cause damage to the Ummah. This is conclusively evident from Islamic history in every era including our times.”

I remind you brothers,

Munafiqeen of this ummah were in the front rows in the congregational prayers when our Rasoolullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was leading the prayer. They even built a masjid and invited our prophet there without any shame. All these under the cloak of Islam, dawah.

Allah Revealed in Surah Tawbah :107,108

وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مَسْجِدًا ضِرَارًا وَكُفْرًا وَتَفْرِيقًۢا بَيْنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَإِرْصَادًا لِّمَنْ حَارَبَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ مِن قَبْلُ ۚ وَلَيَحْلِفُنَّ إِنْ أَرَدْنَآ إِلَّا ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ إِنَّهُمْ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ [٩:١٠٧]

And as for those who put up a mosque by way of harming and disbelief, and to disunite the believers, and as an outpost for those who warred against Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW) aforetime, they will indeed swear that their intention is nothing but good. Allah bears witness that they are certainly liars. (9:107)

لَا تَقُمْ فِيهِ أَبَدًا

Never stand you therein (9: 108)

Allah declared their masjid to be masjid ad diraar.

Allah saved our prophet and his companions from the plots of the munafiqeen.

If the likes of this incident happened during the time of prophet, then what about our times today?

Dear Muslims, be cautious. Today, sects & groups fight sunnah, Salafiyyah and its scholars in the cloak of Quran, sunnah, Tauheed, salafiyyah itself. Do not be deceived by claims, beautified speeches and appearances.

“Know the truth, you will know it people” & aid, cooperate only for the people of truth in order to be from righteous. Aiding the people of falsehood will also make us one of them.

Allah Says in Surah Maaidah Verse NO: 2

وَتَعَاوَنُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلْبِرِّ وَٱلتَّقْوَىٰ ۖ وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْعُدْوَ‌ٰنِ

Help you one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression. (5:2)

People of Bid'ah fight against Sunnah in the name of Ahlus Sunnah with no Usool of following the Salaf in any of the chapters of Islam (Aqidah, Manhaj, Tafseer, Hadees). They believe in one portion of the evidences (Quran Ayah or Hadees) reject the other and thus interpreting it to their whims and desires.

Allah Says in Surah Baqarah Verse 85

أَفَتُؤْمِنُونَ بِبَعْضِ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَتَكْفُرُونَ بِبَعْضٍ….

….Then do you believe in a part of the Scripture and reject the rest?.....

We must believe & follow shariah completely. One who believes Al-Quran, will believe all laws, admonition, orders, prohibitions and perfectness of it for mankind till yawm al qiyamah. We must fear Allah and work towards answering to the questions asked inside grave. Each and everyone has to act upon sunnah, strive to avoid falling into deviations and prepare ourselves for the hereafter.

(Meaning of the Hadees)

Narrated Zaid bin Arqam (رضي الله عنه):

that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: "Indeed, I am leaving among you, that which if you hold fast to them, you shall not be misguided after me. One of them is greater than the other: The Book of Allah is a rope extended from the sky to the earth, and my family - the people of my house - and they shall not split until they meet at the Hawd, so look at how you deal with them after me."

‘Hold onto it’ means holding to its true understanding conveyed to us by the sahabah. Not Quran and sunnah with our own understanding/interpretation.

Imam Barbaharee (رحمه الله) said in Sharh Us Sunnah,

“Know that leaving the correct path occurs in two ways. Firstly : that a man strays from the correct path intending nothing but good, so his error is not to be followed since it leads to destruction. (Secondly), a man who deliberately opposes the truth and acts contrary to the Pious ones who came before him, he is astray, leading others astray, a rebellious devil within the Ummah. It is a duty upon those who know of him to warn the people against him and to explain his condition to them so that no one falls into his innovation and is destroyed.”

Then what about those who knowingly oppose the dawathus salafiiyah?!

Imam Ibnul Jawzee (رحمه الله) said in ‘talbees Iblees’ that the innovators may change their names and places but if they speak, scholars will understand who they are? By their speech, scholars will understand their Aqidah and manhaj. Whether they are Sufis, asharis, etc.

Remember, all these problems, efforts are for benefitting themselves, not for establishing sunnah and manhaj of sahabah.

“Knowledge that does not establish sunnah, spread sunnah is not true knowledge. We pray that those kind of knowledge be destroyed”

May Allah protect us in this times of fitnah, bless us with beneficial knowledge.

Ibn Mas’ood [رضي الله عنه] said, “Allaah’s Messenger [صلى الله عليه وسلم] said:

‘I will be the first among you to reach the Hawd [i.e. the pond from which the believers will drink on the day of Judgement] and some men will be prevented from reaching it; so I will say: ‘O my Lord! They are my followers’; then it will be said, ‘You do not know what they innovated [in the religion] after you’”.

[Reported by Imaam al-Bukhaari 6576]

This will be the situation of the people of bid'ah. They will be the losers, taken away from the Hawd of our Prophet(صلى الله عليه وسلم).

Islamic knowledge is not knowledge of debates & interpretation.

Islamic knowledge is knowledge conveyed by prophet and his companions to successive generations. It is the knowledge preserved in the books of hadees with chains of narrations.

Abdullah Ibn Al-Mubarak (رحمه الله) said:

“The Isnad is part of the Deen. If it were not for the Isnad, then any person would have said (about Islam) whatever he wished.”

Ibn Sirin said, “This knowledge is a religion, so consider from whom you receive your religion.”

(Introduction to sahih muslim)

Is this advice for nothing? Just for beautification?

(Meaning of the hadees)

Narrated Al-'Irbad bin Sariyah (رضي الله عنه):

"One day after the morning Salat, the Messenger of Allah exhorted us to the extent that the eyes wept and the hearts shuddered with fear. A man said: 'Indeed this is a farewell exhortation. [So what] do you order us O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'I order you to have Taqwa of Allah, and to listen and obey, even in the case of an Ethiopian slave. Indeed, whomever among you lives, he will see much difference. Beware of the newly invented matters, for indeed they are corrupted deviations. Whoever among you sees that, then he must stick to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided Khulafa', cling to it with the molars."

(Jami’at-Tirmidhi 2676)

Don’t we take these admonitions and advice seriously?!

Is negligence our Islam?!

Are we sincere or just seeking fame out of Islam, displaying our religiousness?!

Abdur-Rahman Ibn Mahdi, one of the scholars of Iraq sent him a letter requesting that he authors a book on the evidences of legislation from Quran, Sunnah and the consensus of the religious scholars, as well as other issues upon which the science of Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence) is built. Imam Ash-Shafi'ee, may Allah have mercy upon him, wrote the book and named it Ar-Risalah (The Treatise) which became the first book that founded what came to be called: 'Ilm Usul Al Fiqh (The science of the sources of Islamic Jurisprudence).

Abdur-Rahman Ibn Mahdi went to many scholars and was directing by them all to Imam Ash Shafiee (رحمه الله). Imam Ash Shafiee had no choice but to write for Imam Abdur Rahman Mahdi. These were the mountains of knowledge and their manners.

Who are the Aiymmahs of this Ummah?!

Did they speak out of desires, sittings at homes like individuals today?! No!.

They strived for knowledge in hunger & thirst, followed the sunnah, learnt the isnad and made great efforts contributing to preserve and spread the truth. They spent their life in the gatherings of scholars, with books of Hadees, Books of Isnad, Books of Fiqh, etc.

They did not become self-proclaimed scholars over the night like P. Jainulabdeen of Tamil Nadu, Gutb Al Misri, etc. They never spoke except after they were asked to speak by the scholars of sunnah.

They never had the pride of ANAA (one-self) and hastiness with them.

Do you know the level of knowledge Imam Buhari had at the age of 12?! He even corrected his teachers in Sanad and Jarh Wa Tadeel.

One of the most important incident from the life of Imam Buhari (رحمه الله) is that when he arrived Baghdad, scholars of the city gathered to plan and examine his knowledge. They took 100 Hadees, misplaced the text of the Hadees and chain of narration. Not everyone in the gathering knew this plot against imam Buhari. They presented their Hadees (mixed up by them) to our shaykh for proper examination. He responded to all their questions by saying “I do not know such a Hadees”. Then, he finally started to give the correct version of narration and text which they mis-matched. He matched all the text of the Hadees with its correct chain of narrators. Scholars of Baghad were astonished by the knowledge of our Imam.

This is just a very short glimpse into the knowledge of our Salaf.

Yet, they were not hasty to teach people, conduct gatherings, give verdicts.

But today, hasty individuals destroy themselves and the ummah. They are not even equal to the dust of the scholars/Salaf of this ummah.

Brothers,

Call to sunnah, defense of sunnah is not call of any individual(including me), it is the call of the prophet and his companions, the Tabieens, and all those who followed them.

Alhamdulillah, Allah gave us the opportunity to contribute and spread the sunnah to our ability. It is a blessing from Him. It is from the decree of Allah, not our efforts.

Sunnah is a revelation that came from above the sky to our prophet and was conveyed to the scholars of this ummah(first foremost being the sahabah). If you want to know it, follow it, call to it, then first learn it from the gatherings of scholars of sunnah. Nobody holds you from doing so. Your pride is holding you, your false knowledge is holding you, Shaytan is holding you from the sittings of the scholars of sunnah.

Anaa (Pride of yourself) is destroying you..

If you want knowledge, truth, go to the sittings of the Salafi scholars.

If you cannot do that, it is better for you to be silent, it is better for you to be in support of a scholar of sunnah, it is better for you to be even a layman rather than becoming deviant or leader of the hizbiyoon causing all fitnahs.

If you want name, fame, pride, go to the Hizbiyoon, groups, sects, you will be in the path of Firawn and you will end up in Jahannam. May Allah protect us all.

Take the path of Sahabah and scholars of sunnah.

If you take other paths, you will destroy yourself and the ummah.

Allah Says in Surah Muhammad,

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِن تَنصُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ يَنصُرْكُمْ وَيُثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَكُمْ [٤٧:٧]

O you who believe! If you help (in the cause of) Allah, He will help you, and make your foothold firm. (47:7)
